Actos Linked To Deadly Cancer In Lawsuit

The diabetes drug Actos has been linked to a number of serious side effects, one of them being cancer. Cancer is one of the most serious diseases in the United States and could put a patient's health at risk. A lawsuit filed by Nina Kingsdale and her Actos lawyer of New York claims that the drug was responsible for her husband's death in December of 2009. He was prescribed Actos for the treatment of type II diabetes in 2001 and had been taking it for years before his cancer diagnosis.

James Kingsdale was diagnosed with urethelial cancer, which has been recognized as a type of cancer that can be caused by Actos. Kingsdale was a consumer of the drug for more than a year--or 12 consecutive months--and the Food and Drug Administration has warned that patients who take the medication for this duration of time or longer are more likely to experience serious side effects such as Actos cancer.
Nina Kingsdale filed her lawsuit with an Actos lawyer on December 20th, 2011, almost exactly two years after her husband passed away from his cancer. Her lawsuit alleges that the drug makers responsible for the manufacture and marketing of Actos, Takeda Pharmaceuticals and Eli Lilly, did not warn patients enough of the potential for risks that could be associated with the diabetes medication and therefore put patients at risk of serious side effects such as cancer. The lawsuit alleges that if this information was provided, there might be a chance that James Kingsdale would be alive today.
Actos cancer has already been established as a concern, as a number of studies have linked use of the drug with development of cancer. Even clinical studies on rats conducted before the drug was approved for distribution by the Food and Drug Administration showed that rates of cancer were higher than normal and the drug was connected to the rats developing tumors more frequently than they otherwise would.
